"I soon learnt that being a good listener, understanding people's needs first and building strong relationships was key to be successful in recruitment..."
Why did you decide to enter in the recruitment industry?
Someone suggested recruitment to me as I have always been passionate about helping others and my initial idea of recruitment was you needed to be a good sales person (something I was not confident about at the beginning of my career) but I soon learnt that being a good listener, understanding people's needs first and building strong relationships was key to be successful in recruitment, things I found easy to do with my personality type. I have not looked back since, 15 years later.
"We all want to be a part of something where we can make a contribution to our communities."
What was it about healthcare that appealed to you?
Initially it was the opportunity to learn about an industry that is innovative and focused around saving or enhancing the lives of patients, helping create a better & healthier way of living but now I have become invested in this industry and enjoy the sense of purpose I feel daily in my role. We all want to be a part of something where we can make a contribution to our communities.
"Within the first 2 weeks of the candidate being placed in the role, the Head of HR reached out to congratulate me on a fantastic placement following feedback they had received from multiple stakeholders internally."
Tell us about your most memorable role placement. What were the challenges and achievements?
There have been a few memorable placements for me however one that stands out is a Warehouse Manager role for a large global healthcare company who had an operation in Darwin. We had just been successful in securing a spot on their PSA and they challenged us with their most difficult role which they had struggled to fill for the past 12 months.
Darwin was a challenging location and not many candidates with the required experience and culture fit were in the area. We had to screen through many candidates and be really selective in the type of manager we were looking for. This did not sit well with a lot of the applicants and found myself in a position of being challenged by candidates daily and having to field agitation and rudeness (not something I often encounter in my role).
Despite the multitude of candidates screened and rejected, I was successful in sourcing a candidate who not only had the industry experience they desperately needed due to the high regulatory requirements but also someone who had experience in change management and fit the culture perfectly.
Within the first 2 weeks of the candidate being placed in the role, the Head of HR reached out to congratulate me on a fantastic placement following feedback they had received from multiple stakeholders internally.
What education background do you have that helps you with your current job?
I think more than my education, it is my years of experience and constant desire to learn which has helped me in my current role, I continue to undergo courses and training to ensure I equip myself with relevant skills and knowledge.
"I work best in partnership where there is transparent communication."
Why a client or candidate should work with you?
I take the time to understand your objectives and what your goals are. I work best in partnership where there is transparent communication. I am very persistent and patient. I don't give up easily, even in challenging environments.
I am people orientated and driven by outcomes. I want to help both my clients and candidates find success as this is what makes me feel like an achiever.
