About The Company

AdAlta is an innovative, clinical stage biotech company developing a unique range of new drug treatments. AdAlta uses its unique i-body technology to do what antibodies cannot, developing cutting edge human protein therapeutics both independently; and with other industry partners. Adalta currently have 6 programs in development and are looking for a suitable experienced scientist to help characterise new candidates and select the best for development into therapeutics.

About The Opportunity

As a Research Scientist (Analytics), you will play a key role in characterizing i-body candidates to advance into development as therapeutics.  Adalta screen i-body libraries to discover i-bodies to complex or “undruggable” targets that traditional MAbs cannot. Analysis and characterisation of hits against these targets is critical for selecting lead i-bodies to advance to functional and pre-clinical development and for quality control of proteins used for other purposes. You will bring experience in SPR along with an attention to accuracy, reproducibility, reliability, and robustness.

Skills And Experience

  • Experience developing and conducting SPR assays for measuring the equilibrium dissociation constant of biologics and their antigens – this would have been a key technique that you performed during your PhD (or MSc by research) studies, and you will have experience in multiple different SPR assay formats
  • Experience in conducting one or more other physicochemical methods for the detailed characterisation of biologics (e.g. aSEC, IEX, DLS, DSC/F, MALS)
  • Curiosity and attention to detail – you’ll have a sceptical and enquiring mind that can determine when analytical results are suggesting that “something is not quite right”; and you will crave reproducibility
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A willingness to debate and challenge data and take on the views of others
  • Ability to be flexible and nimble – as results, funding and partners dictate. We cannot afford to dot all the “i’s” and cross all the “t’s”; instead, we focus research on providing go/no go decisions and responding to data and opportunities in real time

Team & Culture

At AdAlta, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Conduct research with impact – we work on products and projects directly focussed on improving human health outcomes
  • Grow as you go – as a small team all expected to multi-task, and this builds broad experience rapidly
  • Learn commercial drug development – as a part of a small organisation you will see many aspects of what goes into selecting and developing drugs whilst contributing to decisions on when to start and stop projects
  • Operate in a high challenge, high support environment –all expected to robustly challenge data, and actively debate options. This is not always easy or comfortable, but employees aspire to always play the ball not the person. Organisational philosophy is that, with proper planning, there is either result or learning, never failure and this supports the growth and development of all team members
