Occupational Therapist

  • $40.08 - $46.07 per hour based on qualifications and experience
  • FT Perm role - Immediate start

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Provide timely assessment, management and advice to children and their families presenting with a variety of childhood-related developmental delays, neurological conditions, pre-diagnosis Autism Spectrum Disorders, and other health and developmental issues impacting the child.
  • Deliver various group programs to help increase the ability for children to access Occupational Therapy services.
  • Provide coordinated care by working in a multidisciplinary team environment to ensure best outcomes for children and their families referred to the service.
  • Assist with assessment and management of children referred to the Language & Development Clinic, working closely with team Speech Pathologists.
  • Provide direction and supervision for Team Assistants in the organisation, administration and implementation of groups and other therapy services.
  • Provide timely and professional liaison with other therapists, service providers and stakeholders (such as Paediatricians) to ensure all people involved in the child's care are kept informed.
  • Perform waiting list management and triage of new referrals in a timely manner to minimise wait time wherever possible.
  • Communicate any issues with the Program Manager as they arise and use collaborative, problem solving methods to provide solutions to any such issues.
  • Participate in team meetings and actively monitor statistics and waiting lists to be able to provide up-to-date information to Program Manager.
  • Provide clinical supervision for Occupational Therapy students as required.
  • There may on occasion be a need to provide Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to adult consumers.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities relating to the Community Health Occupational Therapy service and the program as a whole.
  • Provide a high quality service to internal customers and consumers that reflects best practice and adds value
  • Assist the organisation in achieving clinical effectiveness by providing the appropriate systems, information or services to clinical areas

Essential Criteria:

  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Knowledge of and skills in the provision of Occupational Therapy services to babies, young children and their families.
  • Understanding of how service delivery can be impacted by rural or regional location of consumers, and a commitment to delivering care in line with the principles of Community Health, including recognition of the social determinants of health.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an individual within a multidisciplinary team, including the ability to create and maintain effective professional relationships with both internal and external service providers.
  • Possession of excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills, including computer literacy and the ability to produce well-written reports.
  • Proven time management skills and ability to prioritise tasks and competing demands.
  • Ability to complete triage and wait list management tasks to facilitate timely access to services for consumers. This also extends to knowledge of discharge planning for caseload management.
  • Current Victorian Driver's Licence.
  • Satisfactory National History Criminal Check prior to commencement of employment.
  • Satisfactory Victorian 'Employee' Working with Children Check prior to commencement of employment.
  • Completion of a Commonwealth of Australia Statutory Declaration prior to commencement of employment.
  • Desirable
  • Knowledge of working with clients with developmental, Autism Spectrum Disorders, behavioural, fine motor and/or gross motor problems would be highly regarded.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of delivering services to individuals and families from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and also individuals from socially disadvantaged backgrounds.
