Clinical Nurse Specialist

  • Central Sterilising Dept (CSD)
  • Permanent Part-time role - 32 hours per week
  • Based in Launceston, Tasmania
  • Work across 2 hospitals
  • Attractive base rate

We are looking for an experienced clinician to support the Clinical Manager of the unit in facilitating excellence and quality in sterilising processes through proactive leadership and management of the Central Sterilising Departments.

Our focus is to provide high quality care to the sick and vulnerable and in particular to those people approaching and reaching the end of life, their families and carers in all our services.

The scope includes public and private hospital care, acute and sub-acute care, community care and retirement and aged care services, in both rural and metropolitan areas.

Reporting into you will be:

  • Registered Nurses
  • Enrolled Nurses
  • Hospital Assistants / Theatre Technicians

You will take pride in liaising with:

  • Nursing staff
  • Director of Clinical Services
  • Allied Health team
  • Visiting Medical Officers
  • Engineering Services staff
  • Company representatives
  • Contractors and suppliers


Duties within the role:

  • Works collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary peri-operative team to ensure the highest standard of service delivery
  • Orientates new and casual staff to the unit, and acts to enhance the professional development of others
  • Prompt, courteous and professional response to internal and external customer requirements
  • Maintains professional standards, and promotes a team environment on the ward unit
  • Acknowledges and participates in Quality improvement activities as required
  • Ensures the continuing maintenance of equipment, and makes recommendations for change in consumables and submissions for capital expenditure
  • Uses creativity and vision to propose new initiatives and/or change existing programs to meet future organisational and employee needs
  • Ensures all CSD staff have completed the online HICMR Education Program
  • Ensures appropriate direction of CSD through long and short term goals in collaboration with the CNM
  • Evaluates personal performance and plans self-development
  • 100% compliance with mandatory and unit specific competencies every 12 months or as prescribed
  • Participates in the prescribed performance development system annually
  • Identifies and understands the needs and expectations of the customer
  • Take reasonable care of your own health and safety and the health and safety of others in the workplace

Essential Criteria:

  • 2 years experience in the same/similar role
  • AHPRA registration and holds current practising certificate
  • Working with Vulnerable People Check
  • Demonstrated expertise in a Central Sterilising Department and commitment to quality
  • Demonstrated understanding of risk management processes and systems and their relationship to safe quality patient care and organisational outcomes
  • Post Grad qualifications in sterilisation and infection control or willingness to undertake qualification
  • Proven high degree of communication skills, written and verbal
  • Proven leadership and team building skills
  • Demonstrated computer literacy
