Speech Pathologist - Locum

  • Based in Burwood, NSW

  • Duration: 3 May - 30 September - with flexibility to increase hours

  • Pay rate: $45 per hour plus super

  • Hours: 16 hours work per week between 9-5pm

  • 2 days per week - between Mon-Thurs

  • Experience: 12 months minimum exp as Speech Pathologist

An experienced Speech Pathologist is required to join the team in May to look after some valued client whilst their usual SP goes on maternity leave. There will be a handful of clients to hand over with more to come. So there will no doubt be the opportunity to increase from 2 days per week, to more and also a possibility of going permanent.

This role is majority office based with a few home visits required.
The clients will be a combination of adults and children.

Purpose of the role: The role is autonomous clinically and undertakes service delivery for clients with common situations. The role is also able to work independently on less common clinical situations. The position also provides guidance, coaching and mentoring to less experienced practitioners. The role requirements include a dedicated professional who is passionate about the right of every person, irrespective of age, gender, financial circumstance or level of disability, to access high-quality services that will support them to achieve their goals.

The Speech Pathologist is responsible for supporting the Manager in the establishment, management and ongoing development of a person directed, outcome focused and cost-effective therapy and wellbeing support across the lifespan to; children and families, young people, and adults with a disability within a designated area. This position supports capacity building and ensures the services are strengths-based, person-centred and in line with evidence-based practice and align with government or other funding requirements. e.g. Medicare, NDIA, schools.

The therapist is responsible for ensuring the supports provided are based on the choice and control of the person with a disability or their family, with the outcome facilitating functional improvement through adjustment, adaptation and building capacity for the person with a disability and those in their life to participate. Key focus of the roles includes referral and process management, quality control and capacity building of staff to deliver services in a changing environment.

You will use evidence-based practice to support children, adults or across the lifespan (dependent on the role) to achieve their goals as part of their NDIS plan. You will have the opportunity to work as part of a transdisciplinary/multidisciplinary team and best utilise your expertise in speech pathology to provide quality support to deliver positive outcomes.

You will diagnose and treat communication and swallowing difficulties in children, adults or across the lifespan. A key element of the role is supporting people to overcome communication difficulties such as challenges with speech (including support with Augmentative and Alternative Communication), understanding and/or using language, listening, social skills, stuttering, reading, writing and using voice.

Essential Criteria for the role:

  • Current AHPRA

  • Bachelor of Speech Pathology or higher

  • 12 months + experience as a Speech Pathologist

  • Drivers License

  • WWCC

  • Police Check

  • NDIS Screening

  • Disability Workers Screening

  • Excellent communication skills
